What was studied

Cross-sectional analysis of U.S. Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data (2014–2017 and 2019) examining the association between shared decision-making (SDM) and satisfaction with care in patients with psoriasis.

Key findings

A weighted 3,715,027 patients with psoriasis were identified; mean SDM was 3.6/4 and mean satisfaction was 8.6/10. Forty-two percent had high SDM (≥3.9), and high SDM was associated with 85% higher satisfaction with care (P<.001) after adjustment.

Study limitations

Results are limited by use of the MEPS database. SDM was measured using 7 MEPS items, which may not fully capture active participation in SDM.

Clinical implications

In psoriasis care, higher SDM is linked with greater patient satisfaction; clinicians should implement efficient SDM frameworks to strengthen communication.
