This updated subgroup analysis of KEYNOTE-522 evaluated pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy (neoadjuvant) followed by pembrolizumab (adjuvant) versus placebo plus chemotherapy in Asian participants with early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), assessing pathologic complete response (pCR) and event-free survival (EFS).
Asian participants receiving pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy showed improvements in pCR and EFS consistent with the overall KEYNOTE-522 trial population, supporting the benefit of adding pembrolizumab to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in this subgroup.
Subgroup analysis with a smaller sample size than the overall trial, limiting statistical power; findings are exploratory and not powered for formal hypothesis testing; potential ethnic and regional treatment practice differences may affect generalizability.
Pembrolizumab added to neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by adjuvant pembrolizumab appears to benefit Asian patients with early TNBC similarly to the global population. Clinicians treating Asian patients with early TNBC can consider this regimen consistent with overall KEYNOTE-522 findings.
